Riddick, you magnificent bastard! I wanted so bad to like your first two movies.
Pitch Black was a rock solid sci fi thriller. But maybe it should have been a stand alone.
The Chronicles of Riddick had some of the most imaginative world building since David Lynch’s, Dune. (That’s right. I’m that guy who liked Dune.) But somewhere, between the side story about the little cross-dresser from Pitch Black, and the weird metaphysics of the Necromancers, it lost its way.
Now the universes number one fugitive hermit is back doing what he does. This movie seems to be a blend of Pitch Black and The Chronicles of Riddick. A mashup of creatures and bounty hunters with at least one necromancer. And I can’t wait.
But before I see it, I want some answers.
Why do all of the planets look like lava fields? Where are the trees? The rivers? If I were running from bounty hunters, I sure wouldn’t be hiding out in hell.
I mean, ultimately, the biggest difference between the planets that he chooses to hide out on, and the prisons that he escapes from, is the company of his fellow man. So maybe he’s just socially awkward.
For that matter, what did he do? Originally. I don’t think they are tracking him down because he is the last Furian. So why? This could very well have begun as a parking fine that he refused to pay.
Lastly, a bit of advice for the bounty hunters. Get some night vision goggles.
