Roxe15: A Different Flavor of Future

I don’t remember how I stumbled upon the kickstarter for Roxe15.

Celia Peter’s tale of a virtual reality programmer is old school futurism, saturated with blue with a sleek, post 80’s distopia vibe. Clockwork Orange comes briefly to mind. It made me think of the movies that I grew up on, stark and washed out. Only it was new; so new that it has yet to finish post production.

Still, from its white lit tables to the duster that the protagonist wears, trailing behind her as she runs, it checks all of my sci fi buttons.
The protagonist… she has natural hair. She’s chocolate and unlike anyone else in pop culture. That’s  dope. If you were to ask me which famous person she looks like, I’d shrug and tell you that she looks just like herself.

Remember how you felt when you first saw Joe Morton in the Brother from Another Planet? I mean, it’s not like you didn’t see dudes that look like that everyday. But to see him on the screen was like…whoa. Well, Michonne from Walking Dead aside, we still don’t see enough Black women who look so defiantly like themselves.

Here is her kickstarter. She’s raising money for post production. Click it and then donate a lot of money. I want to see this movie made.
